Biography

Ibrahim Saleh is a full time-faculty in the Center for Film & Media Studies, University of Cape Town, South Africa. Saleh is Fulbright scholar & a senior media expert in the “Media Sustainability Index (MSI)”, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Saleh worked very hard to develop an outstanding publication list, and an international networking after finishing his PhD in political communication with a dissertation titled: “Satellite Coverage of Arab-Israeli Conflict in Egypt, Israel and UK”.

Saleh’s abilities and qualities in respect of research work are displayed in an impressing list of publications including monographs and anthologies in political communication, journalism education, and national development as an author, editor and co-editor as well as, his contributions to international academic blind peer review journals, where he also serves as reviewer.
Saleh’s academic excellence is reflected in the awarding of his work as the best research paper of the year 2007, by the World Association of Public Opinion Research (WAPOR) titled: “Sitting in the Shadows of Subsidization in Egypt: Revisiting the Notion of Street Politics.”

In recognition of Saleh’s scholarly and professional expertise in crisis management and cross cultural understanding, many journalism and media departments strongly recommend his books as an indexed scholar in his field.
Saleh already published three books; the first one was published in 2003: “Unveiling the Truth of Middle Eastern Media. Privatization in Egypt: Hope or Dope?, and the third one was published in 2006: “Prior To the Eruption of the Grapes of Wrath in the Middle East: The Necessity of Communicating Instead of Clashing.”

Saleh is also a key reviewer of the most prestigious & top listed publications with high impact factors such as Harvard’s International Journal of Press/Politics, & the Journal of New Media & Society.

Saleh’s work as an editor is highlighted in his work of the Journalism Research & Education on-line Journal, and as a guest editor of the special issue of Journal of Arab Media and Muslim Media Research (JAMMR) on media and religion.

Saleh’s constant work on peace building, and conflict resolution through cross-cultural dialogue, tolerance, and empowering media literacy projects was internationally recognized when he was invited by H.E. Mr. Jose Luis Rodreguez Zapatero, P.M. of Spain in the first “Alliance of Civilizations” Forum in Madrid, Spain (January 15-16, 2008).And in 2009, Saleh was a main contributor to the UNESCO’s most recent publication titled: Mapping World Media Education Policies.

As for his international networking, and global affiliations, Saleh has served as a key note speaker almost all over the world. Saleh’s last key note speaker was in Sao Paulo, Brazil (November 09) on Journalism in Hostile Societies. In addition, Saleh was a guest professor in many of the world’s top ranking universities.

Saleh chairs the Journalism Research and Education Section in the International Association for Media & Communication Research (IAMCR). Saleh also serves as a Global ‘Partner Organization’ of the UN Alliance of Civilizations Media Literacy Education Clearinghouse, & a ‘Liaison Officer’ of the Academic Council on the United Nations System (ACUNS) in the Middle East & North Africa.
Saleh serves also a consultant & trainer for many international and national clusters of excellence including the Information and Decision and Support Center (IDSC), the Egyptian Cabinet, and in the (Partnership Program for Democracy and Governance (PPDG) -Hewar funded by USAID, Implementing agencies CARE/IREX.).

Saleh is the co-founder and the managing director of the ‘Arab European-Media Observatory,’ a pioneer research initiative aiming to provide policy analysis of the “Mediterranean Region” to help bridging the current gaps and establish a more cohesive regional integration.

Most of Saleh’s research papers are indexed publications. For example, his research paper in Comunicar is included in the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI). Besides, almost all of his conference papers presented in the International Communication Association (ICA), International Studies Association (ISA), Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) are indexed in the main databases such as EBSCOhost Databases and All Academic inc, while his papers presented are indexed in the World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR) are available on (JSTOR) & Oxford journals. Saleh’s research paper in Nordicom is indexed in Communication and Mass Media Complete (CMMC) and in the International Bibliography of the Social Sciences (IBSS). Saleh’s paper in Democracy and Security Journal is also indexed in the (IBSS), politics by (IBSS), (CSA), (IPSA) and Lancaster index. In addition, his research papers on civil society and law in the International Journal of Not-For-Profit Law are indexed by Washington and Lee University school of Law ranking of Law journals and (DOAJ). Finally, Saleh’s research papers in Routledge, Palgrave Macmillane and Nordicom are indexed in (IBSS).

Saleh has a special interest in translating and transferring his intellectual diligence and research work into the academic life through teaching, research, media training, and supervision of students’ diplomas, MAs, and PhDs’ dissertations. Saleh’s plans involve attempting to further enhance new ways of thinking Political communication, journalism and media, & improve teaching techniques, e-learning orientation, class room participation and engagement, by developing more sound curricula and approaches.

At the end, Saleh has unlimited interest for capacity building, and enhancing his skills premium, which he certainly uses in his work, especially that he always takes the challenges, welcomes hard work, opens to learn new skills, be mindful of details and stays on top of the latest software that would relate to his field. Saleh prides himself on his dependability and ability to work well with others.
